What is THC-O? [A Brand New Cannabinoid That Packs a Punch]

THC-O — the newest synthetic cannabinoid — is taking the hemp market by storm.

This super potent THC extract is very different from Delta-9 THC, Delta-8 THC, or your run-of-the-mill CBD products.

How, you ask?

Well, you just need a dash of it to get very — very! — high.

Especially if you’re using a THC-O infused vape oil, which — if anecdotal evidence is to be believed — packs a wallop.

So before you go loading this mint new cannabinoid into your vape, here are three key things you need to know:

  1. Beware of the high — as I said, the best THC O carts are pretty powerful. The interesting thing about them is that they sneak up on you… but then they hit hard. Adjust your dosage accordingly.
  2. Double-check the vendors — there aren’t that many THCO manufacturers out there, but some are… less than scrupulous. Make sure that your THCO vape carts are third-party lab tested so that you know you’re getting what you’ve paid for.
  3. Get comfy and don’t rush it — because of its potent high, it is best to take THC-O when you’re done with your day. Some of the best products out there will put you out, so take it slowly… a puff or two every 15 or so minutes until you can gauge the effect it has on you.
  4. Pick up one of our quality THC-O  vape batteries — THC-O in vape form is thick and gooey. The preheat function on our Twist battery makes it a perfect device to use with such oils. You’ll get an awesome flavor and no-hitch performance every time. Check it out on the link below:

What is THC-O?

THC-O, also known as THC-O-acetate, is the new synthetic THC analog extracted from delta-8 THC molecules.

Term analog refers to THC varieties that have similar molecular structures but differ on the atomic level. In fact, the tiniest change in the molecular structure of a cannabinoid can make for a completely new experience when consumed.

While THC-O is a cannabinoid, it’s not naturally occurring and can only be safely manufactured using acetic anhydride in a modern lab through a complicated chemical process. As the manufacturing process requires an expert’s touch and takes a long time, it’s not something that can be rushed or produced at home.

When compared to other popular forms of THC such as delta-8, delta-9 THC, or delta-10, THC-O is the most potent so you won’t need higher doses to get the same high as you would vaping any other delta. Not to mix it with the HHC cannabinoid which is a chemical compound made from CBD also doesn’t originate from the cannabis plant [meaning that it’s completely synthetic].

Due to the fact that it’s made from delta-8 THC — technically speaking — THCO is legal in most states (delta-8 is made from legal hemp).

If you’re not particularly keen on having long sessions and want to get high quickly, this might be the perfect solution for you.

Short Guide to Vaping THC-O Cartridges

Yeah, I know; with all these hemp products, deltas, THC-this’n’thats, you can easily get overwhelmed by the number of vape carts the market has to offer.

There are no specific guidelines to tell you which THC-O cart is the best/worst, but there is a certain flow you can follow to not get lost in the cart jungle.

Choosing the Product

THC-O, like any other hemp extract, brings several health benefits to the table. Whether you’re looking for something to help you with your anxiety, pain, or any other disease or medical condition, this is a potential cure that can turn your world around for you. That said, get your doctor’s advice if you decide to vape THC-O – you don’t want any unwanted potential interactions occurring with your prescription medications.

When looking at vape cartridges, here’s a handful of vetted companies you should take a look at. A lot of users vouch for the efficacy of these products, so you’ll be in good hands if you order any of these on the list.

Generally speaking, you can’t go wrong with any of these brands. All of them offer high-quality THC-O distillates and vape oils, paired with amazing terpene strains providing a great experience, both mentally and physically. And all of them sell the best THC-O carts at affordable prices, so whatever you choose, you’ll be set.

Deciding When to Vape THC-O

An important thing to vaping THC-O is deciding to do it in the right place … and in the right frame of mind. Don’t vape on this cannabinoid if you still have work to do… or if you’re not somewhere comfortable… or if you need to operate heavy machinery or drive a vehicle.

If you’re an outdoorsy person, a small group of friends and a well-known spot in nature would be one of the best places to try some THC-O formulas. After all, it is known as the spiritual cannabinoid, right?

So here’s the gist:

  • only vape THC-O when you have nothing else to do
  • get comfortable and get ready for the ride of your life

Okay?

Think About the Dosage

Now that you know how to pick your cartridge and your frame of mind let’s talk about the dosage.

I’ve already mentioned potency before.

But… this stuff is so strong that I want to reiterate.

THC-O — pure or distillate — is a powerful cannabinoid. More powerful than any other delta out there. And the HHC cannabinoid [another synthetic can] is a baby in comparison.

The best approach here is to take one SHALLOW puff when you’re starting a session. That’s the best way to play this, even if you have experience with different strains of cannabis. Don’t get greedy and take several consecutive puffs because you never know how strong your THC-O cart actually is… and the potency can mess you up.

Most high-quality THC-O products without any additional deltas have 1g of cannabinoid inside. That’s a lot for the uninitiated, so keep that in mind. Also, keep in mind that it takes up to 25 minutes before your feel the full effects. THC-O is a bit slow in comparison to other deltas — most of which are fast-acting. THC-O vape cartridges act slower. Factor that in before going bananas.

Frequently Asked Questions About THC-O

Now that you have the basics down about this synthetic cannabinoid let’s go through some frequently asked questions.

And while I won’t talk about delicious flavors, it’s a good idea to talk about more serious aspects of this synthetic substance.

Is THC-O Psychoactive?

Hell yeah! If I were to describe my experience with the psychoactive effects of THC-O, I would say that in general, I had a good time. I felt chirpy after a first drag as it gave me that uplifting feeling.

But… the moment I had a bit of testing and bumped up the dosage I got to a relaxed state. I might even say sedated, which was by that time a good thing.

By the third puff, I understood what people meant when saying it’s a potent cannabinoid. I was already glued to my bed, 150% relaxed like jello.

To some users, the effects of THC-O are somewhat similar to being on an acid trip. Of course, it was nowhere near the experience of strong acid, but they started to experience different effects. Taking into consideration that this is a non-natural cannabinoid,  I would advise caution — don’t toy with it and be careful if you’re using it for recreational purposes.

Since THC-O is 100% made from the industrial hemp plant, it’s fully federally legal and legal in 41 states in the United States.

As stated in H.R.2 – Agriculture Improvement Act of 2018 [also known as the Farm Bill, by the way), any cannabis product containing less than 0.3% Delta 9-THC is legally classified as a hemp cannabis product and not a controlled substance and thus is legal on the federal level.

However, our potent THC-O falls into the synthetic cannabinoids category, and it’s not naturally occurring in hemp. And while there are no legal issues around this act, its legal status is often brought up considering the DEA’s position on synthesized cannabinoids. In general, the sale aspect of THC-O products falls into a gray area, but regardless it’s unlikely that the DEA will allocate limited resources to THC-O falling into the same category as several other synthetic compounds.

However, it is not outside of the realm of possibilities.

But — bottom line — THC-O is in a murky legal position, and the lack of regulation put it in a precarious position. The federal government and the FDA might not care about it, but you should still check your local laws if you intend to use it.

Can You Get it in Dispensaries?

Due to the THC-O’s legality discussion, I mentioned earlier, for the time being, when talking about dispensaries and THC-O there isn’t a lot of information.

Of course, you are more than welcome to purchase your THC-O in any vape store (offline or online) that offers cannabinoid merchandise for vaping.

Can THC-O Be Detected by a Drug Test?

Unfortunately, because we’re talking about THC-O acetate, it’s likely you’ll fail a drug test if it’s in your system. Since urine tests do not detect regular THC but metabolites — and THC-O is likely to break down into the same metabolites —  there’s no escaping drug test detection if you’re tested.

So like any other delta THC, THC O acetate WILL trigger a positive drug test.

  • Blood tests detect metabolites up to 36 hours after consumption
  • Saliva tests will pick it up for 48 hours after last use
  • With urine drug tests, THC O cart enjoyment is detectable for 30 days
  • Hair sample tests will pick it up even 90 days after last use

In case you know you’re likely to be tested, there are things you can do. For example, you should immediately stop vaping THC O carts [or using any other form of THC]. Hydrate plenty and eat detox foods. In most cases, you should be able to flush the cannabinoids out of your system in 15 to 20 days.

Can You Vape THC-O On a Tolerance Break?

Sadly, no.

When taking a tolerance break, the goal is to flush THC out of your body. Since THC-O is similar to THC in it that it binds to the same receptors in your endocannabinoid system, you’re not really taking a break if you’re vaping it.

If you’re on a break, you’re on a break. Try CBD or HHC — they won’t mess with it, and they bring some other medicinal aspects of cannabis into the play.

That’s it.

That’s all you need to know about THC-O vaping.
